Please Make sure they DO NOT drink the water due to the salt

Himalayan salt soak (sole) can help soothe your dogs and cats sore, inflamed, irritated or infected paws and skin. Himalayan salt soaks are also calming.

Also called ‘pink gold’, pink Himalayan salt is an organic ‘full spectrum’ salt with many health promoting properties, due to its mineral, element, and electrolyte-rich composition.  Himalayan salt contains 71% of all natural elements (electrolytes, elements and minerals) known to man – that’s 84 out of 118 known elements!

Himalayan salt is:

  • Antibacterial.

  • Anti-fungal.

  • Anti-inflammatory.

  • Detoxifying.

  • Nourishing.

  • Soothing.

When paws, or skin are soaked in Himalayan sole, the nourishing, healing minerals are absorbed into the skin, toxins and/or infection is drawn out.

Salt sole is made by dissolving a sufficient amount of Himalayan salt in water to achieve full salt saturation of the water.  When paws or skin are soaked in the sole, the minerals and negative ions present in the salt, permeate the skin - drawing out toxins, nourishing cells, and calming the body, and mind.

How to Make and Use a Salt Soak for Your Dog, Cat

You Will Need -

  • Pink Himalayan Salt

    • Choose from –

      • Finely ground

      • Coarse ground

      • Chunks or cubes (additional dissolving time will be required)

      • You can also choose to use Celtic Salt, or another full spectrum salt – each has slightly different constituents.

    • Do NOT use common table salt, also called iodized salt. Iodized salt is NOT organic, contains toxins, and is not healing.

  • Filtered tap water, real spring water or filtered water (do not use fluoridated water).

    • If you don’t have filtered tap water, you will need to heat water in a pot or kettle.

  • Suitable size bowl, pail or tub for mixing the water and salt, and soaking paws or body.

  • Gauze, or soft washcloth if doing a compress rather than soak.

Himalayan Salt Soak (Sole) Recipe – for use on Unbroken Skin

  • 2 tablespoons pink Himalayan Salt.

  • 34 ounces (4 ¼ cups) of warm water.

  • Note - you can double, triple or otherwise increase the recipe to suit the situation.

  • Add the salt to the hot or warm water.

  • Stir until the salt is dissolved – you now have salt sole.

    • Don't worry if you still see a small amount of undissolved pink salt fall to the bottom of the bath.

Himalayan Salt Soak (Sole) Recipe – for use on Broken Skin

A high concentration salt sole can cause a burning or stinging feeling when used on a cut, or open wound. To avoid discomfort, I recommend reducing the ratio of salt to water. Use this recipe when treating broken skin...

  • 2 teaspoons pink Himalayan Salt.

  • 34 ounces (4 ¼ cups) of warm water.

  • Note - you can double, triple or otherwise increase the recipe to suit the situation.

  • Add the salt to the warm water, stir until the salt is dissolved – you now have salt sole.

  • If the ambient air is cold you can use the warm sole to soak paws, and skin.

  • If the ambient air is warm to hot, you can choose to wait until the sole cools to room temperature before soaking paws or skin.

Using a Himalayan Salt Soak

  • If you used hot water to make the sole, wait until the sole cools down to warm - the sole is now ready for use. Do not soak your dogs or cats paws or skin in hot sole.

    • If the ambient air is cold you can use the warm sole to soak paws, and skin.

    • If the ambient air is warm to hot, you can choose to wait until the sole cools to room temperature before soaking paws or skin.

  • Soak Application

    • Soak paws or skin for at least 5 minutes.

    • If your dog is patient (or your cat just happens to enjoy baths), you can soak for 15 minutes, up to 30 minutes. A longer soak, gives the salt sole more time to provide its healing properties.

    • Do not rinse paw or skin.

    • Allow your dog or cats paws to air dry.

  • Compress Application

    • You can also choose to soak a soft washcloth, or clean gauze in the salt sole.

    • Apply the soaked cloth/gauze to your dog’s or cat’s skin - at affected area.

    • Wrap with a dry bandage and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes.

    • Remove bandage.

    • Do not rinse paws or skin, allow to air dry.

  • This salt sole can be used once or several times per day, as needed.

As with all treatments, remember it is important to treat the condition, and also address the root cause.

Himalayan salt soaks are a treatment, and not necessarily a remedy. For example, if your dog or cat is suffering from a yeast infection (overgrowth of candida albicans), due to food allergies, or environmental allergies - this salt soak can be used to alleviate symptoms. To remedy the condition, a comprehensive natural approach is recommended.
